2020: The Year I Became a Food Blogger and Content Creator

I can honestly say that this past year has been anything but boring for me; perhaps unexpected but most certainly not uneventful at all. I’ll start at the beginning. If you read my blog from last week, you know that in February of this year I was laid off from my job. Then in March the world was hit by a pandemic and I found myself, much like many other Americans in the kitchen cooking… A LOT! In a partnership with my sister and her gym, I started to video cooking my recipes to share and the rest as they say is history!

For someone who doesn't like to commit to anything, having to produce content every week was intimidating. Well that is not entirely true; I am 100% committed to my health, the wellbeing of others, and those who are in my inner circle. Committing to producing content every week, well that was a different story. I had to really think about what exactly I was committing myself to on a weekly basis. I had the platform to help people learn how to cook and eat healthy. Maybe I was in the position to really help others change their perception of what healthy food could really be. There is such a stigma that foods that are good for the body are bland and boring. I knew that was most certainly not the case. My opportunity was available and it was time to take it.

Some weeks, creating content was easier than others. I already had at least a dozen or so existing recipes that I had been cooking for the past five years that I could easily execute and video. My camera roll is 90% food pics, so posting to Instagram was also a breeze. Blogging, well that was a different case all together. Sure I love to talk about food, but to write about it too proved to be challenging. I’ve always been very critical of my writing and struggled with finding just the right words to tell my story. For someone who also has issues with vulnerability, I found writing to be very exposing. It gave me anxiety to think I was posting my innermost thoughts to the whole world! But then I realized that if I never told my story, I would have gone through all of the trauma and trials in vain. People could learn from my experiences and have a better life.

I wrote about very sensitive content and posted it for the world to see and something very interesting happened. I became more bold in my convictions for spreading the word of better health. I became more vulnerable too, realizing that staying in my shell was not doing anyone any good including myself. Complete strangers reached out and thanked me for my content. I made new friends in a time where meeting people has become almost impossible. Most importantly, I found a platform to serve others and spread the word of wellness. As 2021 draws nearer, I plan on revealing more and more of my story to the world. I no longer hide my past, I share it to help others and of course share some amazing meals along the way!
